Coming Soon: Organics Recycling For Everyone!Starting January 1, 2022, new state law SB 1383 takes effect. This law mandates trash, recycling, and organics services for all residents, businesses, multifamily properties, and schools. - Residents & Multifamily Properties with less than 5 units: Most residences already have trash, recycling, and organics services. For residents in condos, small multifamily properties, or residences that were previously exempt from organics services, you will receive information about your new organics services and delivery of your organics cart soon.
- Commercial Businesses, Schools & Multifamily Properties with 5 or more units: If you already receive trash, recycling, and organics services, you are already in compliance! If you do not already have recycling and/or organics, these new services will be required under SB 1383. Businesses and schools will also need to provide bins for trash, recycling, and organics to their employees and patrons, if applicable. The businesses, schools, and multifamily property owners will receive information about these new services soon, as well as when delivery of their organics carts will occur.
- Food Recovery Program: Tier 1 Generators, which can be defined as supermarkets, some grocery stores, and some food-related businesses, will need to set up a food recovery program that requires them to donate edible food to food recovery organizations, such as food banks, food closets, and pantries. More information on these new food recovery requirements and resources to help your business meet compliance measures will be distributed soon.
The City of Woodland is working to develop outreach and education materials to better inform the public on their role in SB 1383 compliance, and will be distributed in the coming weeks. To learn more about SB 1383 and the requirements of this law, visit CalRecycle’s SB 1383 webpage.

Street Pile Collection UpdateWaste Management (WM) has been experiencing equipment failure, staffing issues, and heavy loads for the past several weeks, which has caused delays in some street pile collections and street sweeping. If your pile collection is not picked up during your normal collection day, please leave your pile out for collection the following day. You may receive a call or email about the delay in your service. To ensure you receive these notices, please make sure your contact information is up to date on your WM account by calling (530) 662-8748 or visiting wm.com.
As we head into several days of rain soon, help do your part to avoid localized flooding by using your organics cart as much as possible instead of placing yard waste on the street. If your cart is often full, consider getting a second organics cart for free. Avoid placing small piles on the street that could be run over or parked on, which makes collection difficult and sometimes not possible. For more information on the street pile collection program, please visit the City of Woodland’s Green Waste webpage.
We appreciate your patience as the City and WM continue to work towards providing efficient street pile collections and street sweeping.

'Tis the Season for Water Savings!Even in a dry winter, water customers are able to make a difference in the effort to conserve water. Below are 3 tips on what you can do during the drought to conserve water inside and outdoors: - Update Your Irrigation Schedule: Shorter days and cooler temperatures means landscapes need less water, even if there is less rain in the forecast. Make sure to turn off your irrigation when it rains and decrease the amount of run time and/or days.
- Switch to a WBIC: With a weather-based irrigation controller(WBIC), your system will skip watering when it rains and adapt to local weather conditions. The City offers Woodland water users an exclusive Rachio 3 discount and a $150 rebate for WBIC's! Learn more at Envirowoodland.org/Rebates.
- Check for leaks: Not all leaks are easy to see. If your water bill seems high, and you're not sure why, use AquaHawk. With AquaHawk, you can see how much water you use during the day and night. If you see water usage at every hour, you might have a leak! To view your hourly and daily water use, visit EnviroWoodland.org/MyWaterUse.
