Tip of the Month

With an in-ground irrigation system, just one broken or missing sprinkler component can waste as much as 1,000 gallons of water per week. Making repairs to your system is important to prevent water waste and high water bills. To help ensure your irrigation system is in tip-top shape click here to access a checklist that can help you conduct periodic check-ups during the year.

Business Green Waste Image

Did You Know...

Woodland business and multi-family properties do not have green waste street pile service! If you own, rent, or lease commercial or multi-family property in Woodland, your landscaper must haul green waste from your property to a facility that can compost it, such as the Yolo County Central Landfill, or place it in your organics carts.

By properly handling your green waste, you can help reduce pollution in our streets and storm drains.

Questioning Your Water Use?

On average, 30-60% of our household water is used outdoors! Here are some tips on how you can be more efficient when watering your landscape.

  • View your water use. Use our free customer portal, Aquahawk, to look for patterns such as water use that reoccurs at the same time on several days and how many gallons of water are being used per hour or day. Monitor your water consumption at CityofWoodland.org/MyWaterUse.

  • Check up on your irrigation. Viewing your water use on Aquahawk should help determine when your irrigation is running. Run your system manually to check for any broken sprinkler heads or pipes. Visit BeyondtheDrought.com to create a personalized irrigation schedule.

  • Who to call? For questions about your water use, or Aquahawk, call Water Conservation at (530) 661-2067. For questions about water rates, the water utility assistance program, or to make a payment, please call Finance at (530) 661-5831.

Plastic Bottles

Are You Recycling Correctly?

Here are three simple tips when recycling at home.

  • Recycle all bottles, cans, paper, and cardboard. Recycling these materials helps to conserve resources by reusing the plastic, aluminum, paper, and cardboard to create new things.

  • Keep items clean and dry. Placing food and liquids into a recycling bin can mix with other recyclables such as paper and cardboard; turning recyclables into trash.
  • Skip the bag. Plastic trash bags can tangle in equipment and shut down an entire recycling plant. Plastic bags can be dropped off at Nugget, Raley’s, or Target in Woodland for recycling. See how2recycle.info/sdo for more information about plastic bag recycling.
