- COVID UPDATE -

How does the City of Woodland’s Code Compliance handle COVID-19 complaints and violations?

We know that you and your employees are doing your best to comply with the ever changing landscape of orders and regulations related to the pandemic.  It is a lot to keep up with.  Your efforts to keep yourself, your employees and your customers safe are recognized and appreciated tremendously.  Should you receive a visit by our Code Compliance team, we hope the following information will help you better understand the City’s process and response.

City response with support from Yolo County Emergency Operations Center:

To ensure the safety of employees and customers, when the City of Woodland receives a notification about a business that is not adhering to social distancing or the face covering order, a Code Compliance Officer reaches out to the business and brings the concern/complaint to the attention of the business owner.  This initial outreach allows for an educational opportunity to remind businesses of what is expected so they can make the necessary adjustments to be in compliance.

If a business chooses to ignore relevant orders or does not make necessary adjustments within a reasonable time frame, Yolo County Emergency Operations Center takes over; this includes, County Counsel and County Code Enforcement.  A letter asking for compliance is given to the business allowing for the opportunity to correct any violation and if the business again chooses not to do so, then a fine will likely be issued.  Depending on the severity of non-compliance, the fine can be anywhere from $250.00 to $10,000.00 per day.

When the City is notified about  local businesses who have positive cases of  COVID-19, the notification is  forwarded to the Yolo County Emergency Services Director who then forwards the notification to a team that investigates further. This process ensures measures are implemented to protect others who may be exposed or have been exposed to the virus.

The City continues to look for tangible ways to help our local business community adapt and comply with COVID-19 orders and guidelines, including the recent implementation of the no cost Temporary Outdoor Dining/Use Permit.  We welcome suggestions on how we can do better and how we can support you during this time.

Please contact your Economic Development team if you have any questions or recommendations (contact information available at the close of this newsletter).

- LOCAL LEADER SPOTLIGHT -

mike and amy

Welcome to The Food Front, Grindstone Winery!

Amy and Mike Doherty are the proud owners of their growing winery and brand new tasting room, located just outside of Woodland on County Road 89 in the Dunnigan Hills. Both with multi-generational farming backgrounds and degrees in agriculture, they made the decision in 1997 to diversify their agricultural operation by transitioning towards wine grapes. After years of perfecting their sustainable agricultural practices, in 2011 the Grindstone family label was born. Since then, Amy and Mike with the support of their two daughters and close relatives, have built up a solid community following that pushed them to establish a physical location for our community and tourists to enjoy. Let’s support them as they take the next leap in their family-run operation by celebrating Yolo County’s newest tasting room! Syrah, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Sauvignon are some of the varietals that you can look forward to tasting. Oh, and fun fact – they are just three miles from their friendly neighbor, Matchbook Wines – perfectly located to enjoy both tasting rooms in one trip!

Patio tasting is open! Make your way over to Grindstone any second or forth weekend of the month from 11am - 4pm.

For updates, follow them on social media: @GrindstoneWines and say hello by contacting Grindstone’s Brand Manager Tierney Bates (tierney@grindstonewines.com).
