[ARCHIVED] Martin Luther King Jr. Community Day of Service and Commemorative Program

The City of Woodland invites all community members to roll up their sleeves on Saturday, January 15 for the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service. Taking time to volunteer on a Day of Service honors the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his belief in giving back to one’s community. Engaging in public service empowers individuals, strengthens communities, and moves us closer to Dr. King's vision of a "Beloved Community."

The following organizations will host community service projects:

  • Woodland Tree Foundation & Tuleyome will host a tree planting in Woodland Regional Park Preserve
  • United Way California Capital Region & CCHOC will host a beautification project at Casa del Sol
  • Woodland Public Library will host a general clean up

Following the service projects, the City invites Woodlanders to a Commemorative Program reflecting on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s contributions to the movement for justice and equality. The program will include local speakers and will feature the winners of the Junior Art contest showing off art, poetry, and essays. The event will begin at noon in Heritage Plaza and lunch will be provided to the first 100 in attendance.
