Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. believed in giving back to the community in which you live. The City of Woodland invites all community members to roll up their sleeves on Saturday, January 15 for the MLK Day of Service. Making the time to volunteer for a Day of Service is a great way to serve our community and honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. MLK Day is intended to empower individuals, strengthen communities, and move us closer to Dr. King's vision of a "Beloved Community."
The following organizations will be hosting community service projects.
- Woodland Tree Foundation & Tuleyome hosting a tree planting in Woodland Regional Park
- United Way California Capital Region & CCHOC hosting a beautification project at Casa del Sol
- Woodland Public Library hosting a general clean up
Following the service projects, the City will host a Commemoration program reflecting the contributions Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. made and how he shaped the future generation’s equality movement. The program will include local speakers and will feature the winners of the Junior Art contest showing off art poetry, and essays from local youth. The program is scheduled to begin at noon in Heritage Plaza. Lunch will be provided to the first 100 in attendance.
