Arbor Day Celebration and Tree Planting on March 6

People Planting Trees

PRESS RELEASE

City of Woodland

300 First Street

Join the City of Woodland and the Woodland Tree Foundation on Saturday, March 6 at 8:30 am to celebrate Arbor Day with a community-wide tree planting. A short program will be held at Crawford Park, 1733 College Street, Woodland, including instructions on proper tree planting and care. City Environmental Services staff will also be present to provide information on water conservation, green waste, composting, and other conservation-related topics.

Volunteers will be broken up into COVID compliant family/household groups to assist with the planting of approximately 50 trees. Some groups will plant trees at Harris Park, Streng Pond, Woodside Park, and Ferns Park. Due to COVID restrictions, groups from the same household are needed to plant trees as we cannot group individuals together. Volunteers are encouraged to wear sturdy shoes and to bring shovels and gloves, though some supplies will be provided. No experience is necessary for this family-friendly event. Please visit https://www.woodlandtree.org/, email coordinator@woodlandtree.org, https://www.justserve.org/, or call Woodland Community Services at (530) 661-2000 to sign up and for more information.

Arbor Day is a nationally celebrated observance that encourages tree planting and care. Each year, the City of Woodland celebrates Arbor Day in order to recognize the community benefits of trees and the community’s heritage as “The City of Trees”. Public trees provide a wide range of benefits for our community; including, energy use reduction, air quality improvements, stormwater interception, sequestered atmospheric CO2, and increased property values. Woodland’s 2018 Urban Forest Resource Analysis found that for every $1 invested in public trees, the Woodland community receives $2.51 in benefits.
