20 Cited During Bicycle, Pedestrian Safety Enforcement Operation
Woodland, Calif. – Woodland Police Department Traffic Unit issued 20 citations for a variety of violations made by bicyclists, pedestrians and drivers during a bicycle and pedestrian safety enforcement operation on May 20, 2020.
The operation took place throughout the city from 4 pm to 8 pm. Twenty-three people were stopped during the operation.
Seven bicyclists were cited for violations including: 21605.1 CVC Bicyclist riders must ride in the same direction as traffic, and for 22450(a) CVC Failure to stop for stop sign. One bicycle stop let to an arrest for possession of a methamphetamine smoking pipe. In addition one pedestrian was cited for 21456 CVC Pedestrian entering a crosswalk against the don’t walk signal.
“We are in an unprecedented time, but even during a pandemic, the safety of road users remains a top priority,” Woodland Police Department Lt. Tom Davis said. “We hope this operation serves as a reminder to everyone to practice safe biking, driving and walking behaviors when they are out.”
Due to COVID-19, we ask the public to follow direction from public health officials and practice physical distancing when feasible by staying at least six feed away from others.
The Woodland Police Department will be holding another bicycle and pedestrian safety enforcement operation later in the year.
