PRESS RELEASE
City of Woodland
300 First Street
April 17, 2020 - Woodland’s Fire and Police Department: Our Local Heroes!
April 20, 2020 - As Woodland, the state of California, and our entire country face the unknowns of COVID-19, the City’s top priority is to maintain essential services for our community while protecting the health and safety of our residents and employees. Staying connected socially and celebrating our community is another way that the City of Woodland is working to support residents.
Woodland Police and Fire Departments have two ways to brighten your day on social media.
Woodland Police Department: One of the library’s most popular programs, Books and Badges, can be found on the Woodland Police Department’s Facebook page. Officers and other department personnel read a book aloud online; every Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 11 am. Police staff got the idea to go virtual when a little girl could not celebrate her birthday due to COVID-19. Her mom asked her what she wanted instead of a party, and she said she really wanted a police officer to read to her because she had to miss the Books and Badges event at the library. https://www.facebook.com/WoodlandPD/
The Woodland Police Department has also fulfilled many requests to join birthday parades and sing happy birthday to kids since parties aren’t possible right now. This has been a lot of fun for the officers to share a little joy on a special day.
Woodland Fire Department Marks 150th Anniversary: This year marks the 150th Anniversary of the Woodland Fire Department. To celebrate the long history and strong community ties that have been built over the years, the Fire Department has committed to sharing #WoodlandThrowbackThursday stories on their social media accounts for the entire year. This allows the opportunity to describe the long history of stations, apparatus, and historical fires, but also the chance to highlight the Department today and the wonderful people who currently work there. On Thursday, April 16th, the Department offered a unique interview, via Facebook Live, with Retired Woodland Engineer, Rich Wirtz, to provide an interactive discussion about the rich history of the Woodland Fire Department, most specifically the progression of Fire Station 1. It took place in the old Fire Station 1 (Fire Museum at City Hall) to provide the backdrop of several historical fire engines that have been used over the past 150 years. A recording of this very informational and story-packed interview can be viewed on Woodland Fire Department’s Facebook page. https://www.facebook.com/WoodlandFD/
"Household" and "Family" are Not the Same Thing
Woodland, remember to love your abuelos, uncles, aunts and amigos from afar. Household and family are not the same, and the Stay Home Order means only members of a household may gather. One day, we will all come together again. But for now, stay home to save lives.
