Celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on January 15
Honoring Dr. King’s legacy and celebrating his passion
Join the City of Woodland and Yolo County on Wednesday, January 15th at 11:30 am to honor and commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at Heritage Plaza. Program begins at noon. The event will celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and pay tribute to his vision of cooperation, collaboration and peace.
The Commemorative Celebration will take a special look at the historical civil rights movement, which will include guest speakers and youth essay readings. The event will highlight major events throughout African American history in addition to focusing on the father of the Civil Rights Movement, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Youth Essay Contest: Students in grades 7-12 are invited to re-write Dr. King’s famous “I have a Dream” speech in their own words describing their own dream for unity. Cash prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners in the 2 categories of middle school and high school. 1st place winners will be invited to read their speeches at the Celebration on January 15. Essays must be submitted to WoodlandCSD@cityofwoodland.org by January 8, 2020.
