Woodland’s Annual Bulky Waste Event Changing

PRESS RELEASE

City of Woodland

300 First Street

2019 Bulky Waste Voucher

Woodland residents can dispose of bulky items for free throughout the month of April at the Yolo County Landfill. All Woodland households are being sent vouchers through the mail that must be presented, along with proof of residency, to claim the free drop-off.

Rather than limit drop-offs to one day of the month, Waste Management and the City of Woodland worked together to expand the program to include flexible drop-off times and changed the drop-off location to the Yolo County Landfill. The changes are being made to increase participation by making it more convenient for Woodland residents to unload their bulky waste items and to offer more options than past events.

Residents can drop off up to 5 cubic yards of bulky items such as furniture, mattresses, large appliances, wood and electronic waste. Five cubic yards is equivalent to a full-size pickup truck bed, the cargo area of a full-sized van or a small trailer no larger than three feet high and eight feet long.  This free drop-off is only for Woodland residents residing within city limits.

Tires will only be accepted during a separate tire amnesty event that will occur at the landfill on April 27 from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Household hazardous waste, such as paints and pesticides, are only accepted at the landfill on Fridays and Saturdays from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The Big Blue Recycling Barn also accepts daily donations of furniture, bikes, housewares, and other gently used items. The tire amnesty, household hazardous waste collections and Big Blue Barn donations are open to all Yolo County residents.

To ensure residents receive a free drop-off of bulky items, residents must bring their items, a bulky waste voucher and proof of city residency to the Yolo County Landfill during the landfill’s normal business hours in April. The landfill will be closed April 21 for Easter. Vouchers were mailed to every Woodland resident earlier this month. Proof of residency can include a driver’s license with a Woodland address, or a recent utility bill.

Only one voucher will be accepted per household and the voucher can only be used one time.

Residents who qualify for Waste Management’s backyard service will receive a separate mailing with detailed instructions on how they can schedule a curbside bulky waste pick up.
