[ARCHIVED] Winter Storm Advisory

WINTER STORM ADVISORY

Another weather system is moving into Northern California today bringing rain and windy conditions. A “Flood Watch” means there is a potential for flooding based on current forecasts. A flood watch remains in effect from this evening through Thursday morning. Two to six inches of rain is expected in the valley though higher amounts are possible. This could cause ponding of water on roadways and cause rises on area creeks and streams. Persistent moderate to heavy rain may lead to localized flooding. A wind advisory is also in effect. A Wind Advisory means that wind gusts in excess of 40 mph are expected. Winds will increase tonight continuing to be gusty through Wednesday morning with gusts up to 50 mph causing damage to trees, possible power outages, and difficult driving conditions.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

  • You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.

  • Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for small cars and high profile vehicles. Use extra caution, reduce, or avoid driving when reasonable.

  • The City of Woodland is supplying sandbags to City residents for this event. Public Works staff will provide sandbags to City residents from 7:00 am to 4:00 pm at Municipal Service Center (MSC) office located at 655 N Pioneer. A sand pile and shovels will be located at the SE corner of the MSC parking lot by close of business Monday 2/25/19. To ensure fair distribution, only City of Woodland residents and businesses may receive sand bags and sand for free (a maximum of 30 sand bags per season). A valid ID with their Woodland address must be presented at pickup. Sand bags remain available at retail outlets and are a good to have as a precautionary measure. After the storm event, Woodland residents and businesses may contact Public Works at 661-5962 to arrange a sand bag pick up.

  • To ensure timely receipt of emergency messages, log on to www.Yolo-Alert.org to register cell phone and e-mail addresses.
