The City of Woodland will be celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Saturday, January 19 at Rick Gonzales, Senior Park. Starting at 8:30 am a Unity Breakfast will be hosted by the Woodland Kiwanis. Dr. King encouraged citizens to live up to the purpose and potential of America by applying the principles of nonviolence and serving their community.
This event highlights volunteerism within the community and honors Dr. King’s long legacy of community outreach. A short program honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. will feature speakers Woodland Mayor Xochitl Rodriguez, Yolo County Supervisor Gary Sandy, and Jayne Williams, Executive Director of All Leaders Must Serve.
After the program, a community tree planting in partnership with the Woodland Tree Foundation will commence from 9 am to 12 pm. The public is invited to attend one or both. For those volunteering for the tree planting it is advised to bring work gloves and wear appropriate attire.
