[ARCHIVED] Crawford Park Challenge Course Completed

PRESS RELEASE

City of Woodland

300 First Street

Woodland, CA 95695

The City of Woodland recently installed new exercise stations at Crawford Park following the completion of similar features at Woodside Park. These “Challenge Courses” were made possible by donations the City received from the John & Eunice Davidson Fund, totaling $21,000. In addition to the Challenge Courses, the City was also able to install three new “vippy teeter-totters” – two at Woodside Park and one at Crawford Park.

The Crawford Challenge Course is comprised of eleven workout stations along the park’s walking track and is already being enjoyed by Woodlanders. “I go to Crawford Park every day,” said Judith Givens, a retired Woodland resident, “I have arthritis in my knee and also had a recent knee injury. The exercises I can there really help me strengthen and stretch my knee, leg, and back muscles. I feel like a part of my life has been given back.”

These latest donations are a part of a long giving history by the John & Eunice Davidson Fund to the Woodland community. “Supporting physical activity and healthy lifestyle are one of the main goals of the John & Eunice Davidson Fund in Woodland,” said Carole Pirruccello co-trustee and daughter of John & Eunice Davidson, “I am happy to promote health by funding projects with Woodland Community Services, Parks and Recreation. City parks can be enjoyed by all ages and abilities and having facilities and equipment that function helps make this happen.” Since 2015, the John & Eunice Davidson Fund has awarded the City multiple grants, totaling approximately $70,000. The City has been able to complete the following park improvements for all to enjoy:

  • Decomposed granite walkway improvements at Woodside Park
  • Installation of drought tolerant plants along eastern boundary at Woodside Park
  • Irrigation repairs along eastern boundary at Woodside Park
  • Installation of a basketball hoop at Woodside Park
  • Painting of the play structure at Ferns Park
  • Addition of a vippy teeter totter and a pirouette at Ferns Park
  • Replacement of drinking fountains at Ferns Park
  • Repairs to the musical equipment at Ferns Park
  • Addition of exercise stations at Woodside Park
  • Addition of two vippy teeter totters at Woodside Park

  • Addition of a vippy teeter totter at Crawford Park

The John & Eunice Davidson Fund supports local health, education, the environment, and the arts in Southern New Mexico and Northern California. “When John & Eunice Davidson passed away in 2006 and 2007, respectively, they left a lasting legacy for their families communities by creating the John & Eunice Davidson Fund. With this fund, Diana Davidson and Carole Pirruccello were given a mission to enhance their local communities through supporting non-profit organizations.” Other local beneficiaries of the fund include Woodland Healthcare for the Tuesday night Farmer’s Markets, Dinner on Main, Woodland High School (College Scholarship Program), Woodland Tree Foundation (Residential Shade Tree Program), Woodland Presbyterian Church, and the Woodland Volunteer Bureau Food Closet. Other grant recipients in Northern California of the John & Eunice Davidson Fund include: Capital Public Radio, Christian Brothers High School, Crocker Art Museum, KVIE Inc., Mondavi Center School Matinee Program, Yolo Arts, Yolo Food Bank, and Yolo Land Trust.
