Civilians who volunteer for this program will undergo a background investigation and be carefully screened as to judgment, maturity, and ability to work within a team concept.
Qualifications
The following are the qualifications that need to be met to become a volunteer:
Must be 18 year of age and after submitting a background packet there is an initial interview with Volunteer Supervisor, Trista Kennedy. Once qualified the candidate undergoes a background investigation to include:
- DMV three year history
- DOJ fingerprint clearance (at our expense)
- Local/warrants contact check
- Require proof the authorizations to work in the United States
- Six reference checks (three family and three non-family)
Commitment
The normal available hours are between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m., Monday through Friday. ViPs do occasionally do events and projects on weekends or outside the normal set hours for volunteering. Woodland Police Department (WPD) asks for a minimum of six month commitment when joining the program. WPD requires a minimum of five hours a month volunteer time requirement.
