From November 19th to November 30th 2020, the City of Woodland accepted applications for the "Support Small Business Assistance Program" and awarded grants to 42 qualifying small Woodland businesses and independent contractors during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act funds were originally allocated to Yolo County and accepted for use by the City of Woodland at the Tuesday, November 17 City Council meeting.
Small businesses were able to apply for $500 per full-time equivalent employee (FTE) up to a maximum of $10,000 to assist with general business expenses such as payroll and sanitation. Independent contractors were also able to apply for up to $500.
In addition, small businesses were also able to apply for up to $10,000 in reimbursement of expenditures necessary to serve clients outdoors during the winter months, such as winterization or facility improvements.
A few documents were required to apply: a W-9 form, a Woodland business license, payroll and revenue records, and evidence of financial need depending on the nature of the application.
Applications and program guidelines were available in person at City Hall & online starting the morning of November 19th: Applications were due Monday, November 30 at 5:00 PM. Funds were subject to award by criteria depending on the amount of applications. Applications and program guidelines were available in both English and Spanish and were able to be submitted by applicants in either language.
To help provide application assistance and answer any questions about the Program, the City’s Economic Development team held an Information Session on November 23rd at 10am on Zoom – open to all Woodland small businesses. The information session was only held in English but individual assistance was carried out in Spanish throughout the application period.
