D.R. Horton is proposing both single and two-story home plans to complement the already aesthetically appealing community of Spring Lake. The design direction for these homes was to focus on the pedestrian-friendly nature of the architecture - specifically on the front entry as the focal point of the homes, reducing the impact of the garage doors on the street and providing visually pleasing elevation alternatives with extensive opportunities for material diversity and color accents.
As required by the Spring Lake Specific Plan Design Standards, front porches are brought forward in every plan. Garage doors have pushed back a minimum of six feet from the front plane of each home design. The majority of the front porches are oversized as the SLSP Design Standards recommends. In addition, the roof lines on a number of elevations are broken over the garage and there are also massing projections above the garage to decrease the appearance. Sideyard porches at corner lots are not included as the will encroach into additional corner lot setbacks. Courtyards that compliment a plan and elevation will be added. The proposed plans offer extensive architectural streetscape diversity. This was achieved by massing articulation, a variety of roof and porch configurations and incorporating materials and colors true to their architectural heritage, all in efforts to avoid repetitiveness and create a community that offers quality architecture. Each elevation style has been thoroughly selected and designed to create style, interest, and diversity within the Spring Lake community.
