Martin Luther King Day Celebration

January 12, 2015

The City of Woodland plans to celebrate Martin Luther King Day in style during an event that will commemorate his birthday with speeches, a sing-along and a candlelight ceremony.

Scheduled for Monday, January 19th from 6:00 – 6:30 p.m. in Heritage Plaza at the corner of Main and Second streets, the event will focus on Martin Luther King’s birthday and a celebration of community solidarity. “It’s an opportunity for everyone to come together and join one another in celebration of Martin Luther King’s legacy of peace, collaboration and unity,” said Woodland Mayor Tom Stallard. “As friends and neighbors we have much to be grateful for and much to celebrate,” he said.

With the advent of a new year, Stallard said it was time to start building bridges to one another and to recognize the value of community unity.

The event will feature a dramatic reading of Martin Luther King’s “I have a dream” speech, include a number of speakers and conclude with a sing-along and a candlelight observance.

“We want everyone to attend and to feel welcome here in our wonderful community,” Stallard said.
