Commit2Fit 30-Day Fitness Challenge

For over the past year, planning efforts have been underway to implement a citywide fitness initiative. Commit2Fit,is an attempt to more actively engage our community members in a manner that supports and inspires healthy living. In promoting healthy lifestyle choices, encouraging physical activity, and emphasizing nutritional health, this initiative seeks to advance the quality of life of Woodlanders. This effort is being led by the City of Woodland in partnership with Yolo County, Woodland Joint Unified School District, Woodland Healthcare, YMCA, Cross Court Athletic Club, In-Shape, Fitness 19, Velocity Island Water Park, Nor Cal Indoor Skate, and Cross Fit Iron Mile.

While the Commit2Fit 30-Day Fitness Challenge starts on November 1st, the overall program will initially span all of 2015. The first of several 30-Day Challenges begins on November 1st, in time for participants to get ready for the holiday season. During the 30-Day Challenge, participants record their amount of physical activity on a fitness log. Free group exercise classes are also offered during the 30-Day Challenge with classes/activities ranging from ping pong to Boot Camp (some other activities include  “stroller strolls”, biking with the Woodland Bike Campaign, Zumba, and family skating). Incentives to continue to participate in the program include daily prizes through a daily Facebook contest and also a raffle at the end of the challenge (raffle prizes include an iPad mini, a FitBit, and memberships to health clubs).

 Participants will be able to register for the program on October 5th at Food Truck Mania, October 10th at Movies on Main Street, at a kick-off event at the Community & Senior Center on October 23rd between 5:30 pm – 7:30 pm, or by stopping by the Community & Senior Center, the Woodland Public Library, Cross Court Athletic Club, or Fitness 19. At the October 23rd kick-off event, program partners will be present and will provide testing for blood pressure, body fat, and weight. Information will also be available for goal setting and on nutrition.
