"Street Sounds" First Friday Art Walk

Woodland First Friday Art Walk August 1  -

"Street Sounds" Will Be Hitting the High Notes in Downtown Woodland

It will be all about the music and art at the August 1 downtown Woodland Art Walk First Friday event. The theme is "Street Sounds" and up, down, and around Main Street live music will be performed - from country to folk, from Latin to the blues there should be a sound on Main Street to please all music lovers.

The "Music on Main" series presents Latin Touch performing from 7:30 - 9:30 p.m. at the Barth Building, 423 First Street.  Latin Touch is known for playing rhythm and blues, funk and old school and Latin rock covers. The eleven-member band includes artists with diverse musical backgrounds who come from from Mexico, the Philippines, El Salvador, Chicago, Arizona and California. Artist David Peterson will be live painting scenes at the Barth Building and at Remember When Emporium. Peterson is known for his watercolor and acrylic streetscapes and interpretations of landmarks such as Yosemite where he has been invited twice to be a Yosemite Art Center visiting artist. His work can be found at several locations in Sacramento including the Sacramento Fine Arts Center. Up front, in the Barth Gallery, a black and white photo exhibition by Michael Solomon will be showing.  Titled "All That Jazz" the show will feature photographs of popular jazz musicians who have performed at the Monterey Jazz Festival.

A new art walk music location will be the sidewalk in front of The Stag, at 506 Main Street where Two Barrels Shy, the duo of Phillip Lovejoy and Kally Pile, will be performing from 6:30-8:30 p.m.  Down the block at Lulu's Luxe, Roy Country, a classic country music group will be singing and playing from 6 - 8 p.m. The popular Todd Morgan (of Todd Morgan and the Emblems) will be offering a solo performance in front of North Valley Bank on Main Street beginning at 6 p.m. Aria Restaurant will be hosting the jazz, swing and bossa nova music of Jeffrey Felsher and Joe Lev, members of the Sacramento Blues Society and regular performers at the Torch Club and Louie's Cocktails in Sacramento. Musictown Studios will have musical performers throughout the night in front of their studio at 215 Court Street.  Watermelon Music will be hosting the jazz sounds of Stan Johnson from 6 - 8 p.m. in a sidewalk performance and on the second floor balcony of Mojo's Lounge the Flatlander Sound Crew will be hosting an open mike until 10 p.m. for those who want to make their own music.

An art reception for artist Stephanie Forbes is planned at Ya-Ya's Consignment Shop at the rice mill on Court Street. Her music inspired paintings will be exhibited and the reception will feature the wines of Avenue Winery. Local artist Zach Gracia returns to Mojo's Lounge with a show of his digital paintings and photography, and the photography of Kenny Calhoun can be viewed at Kithchn428. Continuing at Aria Restaurant will be the music and dance inspired acrylic paintings of Zoe Walsh in a show titled "Dance of Life."
