9/11 Remembrance Commemoration

April 13, 2011

The Police Department has approved the wearing of a 9/11 Remembrance Commemoration Bar on the police uniform through December 31, 2011 to mark the 10th anniversary of the attacks on the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and United Flight 93. 3056 souls perished on American soil on September 11, 2001. 403 of those who perished were first responders; Police, Fire, and ambulance personnel.

The wearing of this pin actually signifies more than paying tribute to all who perished on September 11, 2001. It also demonstrates our commitment as first responders to the memories of all who have made the ultimate sacrifice during this war on terror and our unyielding support of our military personnel.

Police Department employees wishing to wear the 9/11 commemoration pin are responsible for purchasing the pin. A portion of the proceeds from these purchases will be donated to the September 11th Widows and Victims Families’ Association, Inc.

The Police Department invites the community and city employees to attend a September 11 remembrance event at Fire Station #3 on September 11, 2011. The details related to this event will follow later this summer.
