The Woodland Fire Department received approval for new scope of practice for Firefighter/EMT's. This new scope of practice is the use of an advanced airway device called the "King Airway Device". It will allow Firefighters to provide a more advanced airway in cardiac cases in which CPR is performed. Previously the Fire Department used a basic device called an oral airway and waited for Paramedics to arrive and place an endotracheal tube in place for a more patent airway. This new airway will provide a better level of service to the community when the unfortunate event of a heart attack may occur. Lori Gallian EMT-P, the Fire Department’s Contract EMS Coordinator and Principal Instructor, was instrumental in navigating through the process and leading the Department to this new opportunity for the community.
This new skill and equipment are in service as of February 8th, 2011. The Fire Department looks forward to providing the best service the citizens deserve.
