Woodland Public Library’s Food for Fines
November 25-December 21
Find a library book under your bed? Forget to bring a DVD back on time? Now is your chance to clear your library fines while helping others by donating food to people in need during Woodland Public Library’s Food for Fines program.
The Woodland Public Library is offering a fine amnesty period from November 25 – December 21. During this time, anyone with a Woodland Public Library card can have their fines waived in exchange for nonperishable boxed or canned food, which will be donated to the Yolo Food Bank.
Food items should be brought to the check-out desk during open hours. There is no minimum food donation requirement or limit to the amount of overdue fines that can be waived per account; however, food donations will not waive any accrued collection or lost material fees. Perishable, expired, beyond sell by date and homemade food items will not be accepted.
Most Wanted Food Items
The Library is proud to be able to offer this program for more than 20 years. Library patrons will be able to enjoy using their library cards free of fines and the Yolo Food Bank will have a fresh, well stocked supply of food for those in need. Everyone in the community, regardless of fines, is encouraged to donate food at the library.
A collaboration between the Woodland Public Library and the Yolo Food Bank, this community food drive presents a great opportunity for residents to give back to the community and take advantage of the great materials and programs the Library offers, such as storytimes, book clubs, homework help, coding classes, Square One classes, and so much more.
In the past the "Food for Fines" food drive has collected over 1,500 pounds of food annually. Through this generous food donation, library patrons are able to provide approximately 1,064 meals to our Yolo County residents each year.
