CHAPTER 5. BICYCLES.*
Sec. 5.20. Restrictions as to handle bars and pedals; safety equipment required.
(a) No bicycle shall be operated on a street or bicycle path in the city
equipped with handle bars so raised that the operator must elevate his hands
above the level of his shoulders in order to grasp the normal steering grip
area.
(b) No bicycle shall be operated on any street or bicycle path in the
city which has been modified or altered in such a way as to cause the pedal at
its lower most position to be more than twelve inches above the
ground.
(c) Every bicycle operated upon any street or bicycle path in the
city during darkness shall be equipped with a lamp emitting a white light
maintained so as to be visible from a distance of three hundred feet in front of
the bicycle. A lamp emitting a red light maintained so as to be visible from
three hundred feet to the rear may be used in addition to the red reflector
required in the following subpart of this section.
(d) Every bicycle
operated on a street or bicycle path in the city shall have the following
reflectors:
(1) A white or yellow reflector on each pedal maintained so as
to be visible from the front and rear of the bicycle during darkness from a
distance of two hundred feet.
(2) A white reflector on the front.
(3) A
red reflector on the rear.
(4) A white or yellow reflector on each side
forward of the center of the bicycle and a white or red reflector on each side
of the rear of the center of the bicycle. Bicycles which are equipped with
reflectorized tires on the front and rear need not be equipped with side
