Neighborhood Watch is a Crime Prevention Program that enlists the active participation of citizens in cooperation with law enforcement to reduce crime in their neighborhoods. It involves neighbors getting to know each other and being trained to recognize and report suspicious activities in their neighborhoods. The Woodland Police Department encourages citizens to work with their neighbors to keep their neighborhoods safe and help us reduce crime in the city. Neighborhood Watch has been in existence since the early 1970's. It is a crime prevention porgram that has proven to be effective.
We currently have approximately 240 Neighborhood Watch groups in our community. Due to the recent budget cuts to the department's crime prevention program, the Neighborhood Watch Program has become even more critical in assisting the Police Department with its crime prevention efforts. We encourage residents to continue with Neighborhood Watch meetings and to pursue expanding their blocks to include more participation from their neighbors. While we may not be able to provide a more proactive staff support, we will do our best to participate in meetings and address pressing issues.
