Weed Abatement

On Friday April 2, 2010 The Fire Department sent out weed abatement notices to over 200 property owners covering approximately 300 properties. The annual notice reminds property owners to maintain their property clean and free of weeds that may cause a fire hazard. This year we have placed a deadline for compliance of May 15, 2010. The letter reminds the property owner that this is a year round program and they may need several cuttings to maintain their property.

Each letter has enclosed a copy of the maintenance standards for their property.

If we receive a complaint after May 15, 2010 we will inspect the property and send a second notice to the property owner to gain compliance. A 14 day notice will be given to bring their property into compliance. If after the second notice they have not complied, we have the ability after a public hearing, by Municipal Code to go on the property and remove the weeds and bill the owner for the service.
