*************************************************************************************************

During the month of January, The Woodland Police Department has responded to more than ten reports of vehicle thefts. These thefts have occurred while the victim has left their car unattended and running with the keys in the ignition in an effort to warm it up. The majority of these instances the vehicle is unlocked in the driveway or on the street in front of the victim's home.

The Woodland Police Department would like to encourage everybody to stay with their vehicles while they are warming them up. These are crimes of opportunity and if you don't provide the opportunity then the risk of having your vehicle stolen is lessened. It should also be noted it is a California vehicle code violation in some instances to leave a vehicle running and unattended. It is the Department's desire to curb these thefts by informing citizens of the danger of leaving your vehicle running and unattended.

If anyone has information regarding the vehicle thefts or questions please contact the Woodland Police Department at 530-661-7800.
