| On Monday, August 5, 2013, at approximately 1:13 A.M., Woodland Police Officers and Fire personnel were dispatched to a vehicle vs. pedestrian hit and run collision on Main St. near Walnut St. Responding officers arrived on scene and located an injured adult male laying on the sidewalk in front of Chase Bank (304 Main St.). Medical personnel arrived on scene and pronounced the male subject deceased a short time later. Investigating officers located a license plate from the suspect vehicle on scene and searched the area extensively for the vehicle. |
At approximately 2:20 A.M. a Woodland Police Officer located the suspect vehicle parked on First St. north of Laurel St. Officers contacted a subject that was seated in the driver's seat and ordered him out of the vehicle. After refusing to comply with the officers' commands, the suspect was forcibly removed from the vehicle and detained without further incident.
During the investigation it was determined that the suspect, identified as nineteen year-old Woodland resident Ivan Martinez, had been driving while under the influence when the collision occurred. Martinez was taken into custody and later booked into the Monroe Detention Center on charges of Gross Vehicular Manslaughter, Fleeing the Scene of a Collision after Committing Vehicular Manslaughter, Driving While Under the Influence Causing Bodily Injury, and Driving Without a License. Martinez is being held on $250,000 bail.
