|On the 11th of April 2013 at 11:20 pm, Woodland Police Officers were dispatched to the 1600 block of Farnham Avenue for a report of an interrupted residential burglary. While responding to the area, Officers learned that 2 Hispanic males fled the victim's backyard after she interrupted them removing window screens and shattering a dual-pane rear window. |
A neighbor who came to the victim's aid gave chase after one of the fleeing suspects. As the neighbor tried to grab and detain him, the suspect swung a knife at the neighbor. The fleeing suspect was described as being a 20 year old Hispanic male adult, 5 ft 6 inches, and having a thin build. He was seen running westbound on Farnham Avenue from Laugenour Drive.
A responding officer stopped and detained the second subject leaving the area east of the victim's home. Assisting Officers conducted an in-field "show-up" of the second subject with a witness to the crime. The witness positively identified the subject stopped as being one of the attempted burglary suspects.
Woodland Police Officers arrested 19 year old Woodland man, Ernesto Justin Negrete. He was booked at the Yolo County Jail for attempted residential burglary, committing a felony while released from custody - both felony crimes - and one count of misdemeanor vandalism. Negrete had recently been released from the Yolo County Jail for an unrelated burglary charge.
Neither the victim or witness were injured during the event. The armed suspect who fled from the witness is still at large. Anybody with information about this incident is encouraged to call the Woodland Police Department.
