|On March 18th, 2013 at approximately 10:31 a.m. Woodland Police Officers responded to Woodland Fire Station #2, located at 1619 West St. for a suspicious device. The device was brought into the fire station by a citizen who found it at an empty house in the neighborhood. Woodland Fire Firefighters notified the Police Department and Officers responded. Upon arrival, Officers believed that the device was some type of explosive device. Officers isolated the device, evacuated the Fire Station, blocked traffic in and around the intersection of West St. and El Dorado, notified neighbors to shelter in place and relocated students and staff of Woodland Christian Elementary to the western portion of the school. |
The Yolo County Bomb Squad responded to the location and took over the scene by safely attempting to detonate the device and then removed it. This incident is still under investigation by the Yolo County Bomb Squad and the Woodland Police Department.
The Woodland Police Department and Yolo County Bomb Squad would like to remind citizens that if you come across a device that looks suspicous to not attempt to manipulate, move or examine the device but rather leave it in place, evacuate the immediate area and conatct local law enforcement to evaluate.
The school and intersection was reopened at around 1pm.
