On Sunday, September 30, 2012, at approximately 7:29 pm, Woodland Police officers were dispatched to 1229 E. Main St. (7-Eleven) regarding an in progress robbery at gunpoint. As officers neared the area, they were updated with information that the suspect had already fled in a dark colored vehicle; a license plate number was also provided. One officer contacted witnesses at the store, while others began a search for the suspect.  According to witnesses, the suspect entered the store through the front door wearing a dark long-sleeved shirt and a ski mask. The suspect pulled a black semi-automatic pistol from his front waistband and demanded money. He then grabbed a large handful of money and left through the front door. Witnesses on scene said they saw the suspect get into the passenger’s side of a waiting vehicle parked nearby. The driver drove eastbound on Armfield Ave. and then southbound on Thomas St., where witnesses lost sight of the vehicle.

At approximately 8:01 pm, another officer located a vehicle matching the description of the suspect vehicle parked in the parking lot of 1562 E. Main St. (Quality Inn). The license plate was very close to that provided by witnesses. The officer ran the registration through DMV and found that it was registered locally. The officer contacted a female near the vehicle who identified herself as 47-year-old Woodland resident Jackie Hayes, who also claimed ownership of the vehicle.  During a consensual search of the vehicle the officer located the dark long-sleeved shirt and a black semi-automatic replica pistol BB gun.  As another officer arrived, 51-year-old Woodland resident Walter Hayes walked out of his motel room and approached the officers. The officers conducted a consensual search of the motel room and located a large quantity of US currency, a full-face ski mask, and other clothing the suspect had been wearing. In speaking with motel management, the officers learned that Walter and Jackie Hayes arrived just minutes before the officers and paid for the motel room in cash. Witnesses from the 7-Eleven positively identified the vehicle used in the robbery, the clothes found in the vehicle and the motel room, and Walter Hayes’ stature as matching the suspect’s body stature in the robbery.

Both Walter and Jackie Hayes were arrested and brought back to the police department for questioning before being transported to the Yolo County Jail where they were both booked for violation of California Penal Code §211, Robbery.  Each is being held on $100,000 bail.  Nobody was hurt during commission of the robbery, nor during the arrests of the suspects.  Anyone with any information about this crime is encouraged to contact the Woodland Police Department at (530) 666-2411.
