Free Water-Wise Landscape Design Workshops

PRESS RELEASE

City of Woodland

300 First Street

Redesigning your front yard is an exciting, yet daunting project. On October 16 from 6:00p.m.-8:00p.m. and October 26 from 10a.m.-12p.m. at Woodland’s Community College, there will be two free “Plant Your Ideas” and “Just Add Water” workshops for Woodland residents. These workshops are designed to give homeowners the tools and information they need to get started on creating a water-wise front yard. Registration is limited to 25 participants. Please register at EnviroWoodland.org/WaterConservation. For more information, contact Water Conservation at (530) 661-2067 or conservewater@cityofwoodland.org.

In the Sacramento region, over half of a homeowner’s water is used outdoors. Switching from thirsty turf to plants well-suited for California’s Mediterranean climate not only saves water, but offers a wide range of aesthetic and ecological benefits.

The “Plant Your Ideas” workshop will begin with a presentation on basic landscape design principles and issues homeowners should consider before beginning their projects. Following this, attendees will create custom landscape designs for their front yards using aerial photos and “drag & drop” shapes representing plant types. The “Just Add Water” workshop will give participants a hands-on introduction to water-saving drip irrigation systems and an opportunity to create a water-wise irrigation system for their landscape design. Landscape professionals and volunteers from the UCCE Master Gardeners - Yolo County will be present at both workshops to answer questions and give advice.

This workshop is hosted by the City of Woodland - Environmental Services and the Yolo County Resource Conservation District.
